Board of Health Information

The Chester Borough Board of Health meets on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 PM.  The Board of Health is responsible for approving applications for new septic systems and the alteration or repair of septic systems; the drilling and abandonment of potable wells and food handling.  Applications for septic systems must be received in the secretary’s office ten (10) business days before the monthly meeting.

The Bernards Township Health Department is the Contractual Health Agency serving seven communities, including Bernard’s Township, Bernardsville, Chester Borough, Long Hill Township, Mendham Borough, Mendham Township and Peapack-Gladstone.  Each town has an independent Board of Health with a representative from the Bernards Township Health Department.

The VNA of Somerset Hills has contracts with Bernard’s Township, Bernardsville, Chester Borough, Far Hills, Long Hill Township, and Peapack-Gladstone to provide the following health services: child health clinics; school audits; staff Department of Health clinics; hypertension screenings; and visit the frail elderly.
